RAAS
by
Tarini Kumari
When in Jodhpur, indulge yourself with a night or two at the incomparable Raas. Built in the typical haveli style, this hotel is the perfect spot to make you feel like a royal for the night. A drink at their rooftop bar while you enjoy the stars above you, the fort lights in front and great service staff to help you out, sounds like a good way to wind down. Did we mention their swimming pools are heated? What more do you need for a winter trip?
Janta Sweet Home

A no-brainer for the locals, Janta Sweet Home is a legacy. Serving the city’s most favoured mithais (sweets) and namkeens (savoury snacks) for over 5 decades now, this local favourite is located right next to the railway station. Every preparation here is fresh, authentic and pure - or as the owners like to put it - about the people, for the people.
Sparrows Pizzeria
by
Tarini Kumari
Gorging on traditional Rajasthani or Indian food through the duration of your stay can get heavy on your stomach. We know that feeling. And sometimes you just want to get in some comfort food after a long day of doing all things touristy. Sparrows Pizzeria is just the right spot. This tiny little space offers thin crust pizzas in the city in quite an offbeat setting. Be sure to check it out.

by

The regal, stately Umaid Bhawan Palace Hotel is difficult to describe - as words may not do it justice. The royal hotel has played host to many a celebrity wedding, and is a truly extraordinary location. The Art Deco palace is truly stunning - even the murals inside are Art Deco. Every inch of the Umaid Bhavan experiences boasts of luxury and royalty. Visit and become royalty yourself.
WelcomHeritage Bal Samand Lake Palace
by
Tarini Kumari
The Balsamand Lake Palace is a massive red stone structure on the banks of the not-so-big but charming Balsamand Lake and was built by the Raja in the 17th century. Once home to royalty, the property is now converted to a hotel. The massive 60 acre property is surrounded by fruit orchards, lawns and floral plantations. The cherry on the top is the amazing food served here, especially the kebabs that are appreciated by locals and tourists alike - their in-house chef is well-known and a meal here is local approved.

Stepwell Café
by
Tarini Kumari
Jodhpur can get hot during the day and what works better than a nice cafe with some chilled beer to help you cool down. The Stepwell cafe, managed by Raas, serves not just that purpose but it has great pizzas, appetisers and for those of us with a desi palate, some classic Indian meals too. Not only do you get your money’s worth with the food they serve but also with the unforgettable view of the Toorji ka Jhalra. It’s best to let the cafes growing popularity speak for itself.
On The Rocks
by
Tarini Kumari
One of the oldest restaurants in the city, On the Rocks is a classic restaurant that locals visit for their Laal Maas - a Rajasthani special mutton preparation. The decor is kitschy- indeed you’ll feel like you’re in a cave, or a movie set. But they also have a lovely outdoor area and garden - so we suggest eating there.

Mandore Garden
by
Tarini Kumari
Before the Mehranghar Fort came to life, the now Mandore Gardens was the town’s fortress. Today, the ruins of the historic structure hold archaeological significance and still remain at the spot, surrounded by lush gardens. That’s not it, the gardens are home to a bunch of cenotaphs (architectural structures made of stones - often temples, reading rooms, outhouses etc.) that served during these historic times. Be careful, the garden is full of monkeys, mostly friendly, but better safe than sorry.

The stunning stepwell - recently restored by the JDH urban regeneration project - has become the epicentre of the city when it comes to culture and happenings. While the pandemic did a number on this area - the Toorji ka Jhalra will no doubt be restored back to its former glory. Visit and admire the ancient stepwell, walk around the many cafes and shops in the Stepwell Square, and soak in the charms of this lovely city.
Kailana lake
by
Tarini Kumari
Located on the outskirts on the city, this man made lake was built by the former Raja of Jodhpur. Over the years, this has been one of the few water bodies that provides water to the city. With a scenic backdrop, the Kailana lake is the perfect spot to catch glimpses of exotic fauna (if you’re lucky), take some great snapshots, and relax.
Houses under Mehrangarh
by

After parking at the fort, and while facing the fort - there’s a set of stairs to the left that lead you down to the famed blue city houses and lanes. Walk through these streets, romanticised by many photographers and Indophile, and get a sense of the day to day lives of the townspeople. End at Raas or the Stepwell Square for a well-deserved drink.
