In the 19th century, Anna Atkins, an English botanical artist, collector, and photographer, was the first to illustrate a book with photographic images. She used the Cyanotype process to illustrate her samples, producing highly detailed blueprints of plant specimens.
Sarmaya in collaboration with Artwala House brings you a Cyanotype Workshop inspired by this story. In this workshop participants will learn about the history of cyanotype printing, the chemicals, and experience the process from start to finish. The workshop will follow a walkthrough of Sarmaya's exhibition 'In the Dappled Light' on view until May 4th at the Sarmaya Arts Foundation.
Cyanotype is a photographic blueprinting process that involves exposing a light-sensitive material to UV light. It is the oldest photographic printing process, also known as sun printing. Age group: 16+
