One Heart, Two Worlds: A Simchat Torah Walk of Jew Town

The only Jew Town tour in Kochi that explores the history of the Cochin Jews in detail

In the beautiful city of Cochin, a community lived for over two millennia, honoured and respected by the local people, and they thrived. The Raja of Kochi received them graciously and gave them a principality with their own chief and a charter etched on copper plates, granted them royal privileges in perpetuity for as long as the world and the moon exists. The Jews lost their principality when the Portuguese arrived, and sought help from the Raja, who offered them a town for their own next to his palace. This is their story!

For this walk, we have decided to do it at the same time of the famous Shmini festival lighting that coincides at the end of the walk. You will also get to know more about this festival that is the grandest festival celebrated by the Cochin Jews.

Guidelines

• Per head registration cost of the walk is ₹799.
• Carry a cap/hat/umbrella and ample drinking water.
• Wear comfortable shoes.
• Photography is permitted.
• Videography is permitted with restrictions. Check with your storyteller before you shoot.
• Avoid littering during the walk.
• The tour route is in public areas over which we have no control. We are not responsible and shall not be held liable for the behaviour of the public, other tour patrons, or any accidents during the tour.
• Reach the meeting point 15 minutes ahead to avoid delay in starting the walk. Late admittance is not guaranteed.
• Kindly follow all instructions laid out by the storyteller on the day of the walk.
