Safdarjung's Tomb, a striking sandstone and marble mausoleum in Delhi, built in 1754 for Nawab Safdarjung, the influential prime minister of the Mughal Empire. As Mughal power waned, Awadh, with its capital at Faizabad, flourished under the leadership of its Nawabs. Saadat Khan, the first Nawab, established Faizabad, which saw significant development during the reign of Safdarjung and his successor. The Nawabs of Awadh, a Persian Shia Muslim dynasty, cultivated a rich cultural heritage, inviting scholars, poets, and artists from around the empire. However, the region's prosperity faded after the capital moved to Lucknow and with increasing British influence. This heritage walk at Safdarjung's Tomb delves into the story of rise and fall of Awadh.
