Our menu reimagines the classic banana leaf feast.
Each element is carefully balanced, echoing the diverse emotions and experiences that the New Year brings. Salt. Spice. Sourness. Sweetness. Bitterness.
Hosted at Copper + Cloves Cafe—a space dedicated to vibrant, colourful, plant-based cuisine—and curated by SORU, an experimental craft kitchen, this tasting experience blends mindful eating with age-old rituals, inviting you to slow down, savour each moment, and welcome the year ahead.
About SORU
SORU - an experimental craft kitchen that stands at the intersection of nutrition and culinary storytelling. Founded by Varsha Srinivasan—a culinary nutritionist and chef—SORU is dedicated to capturing the balance of everyday Tamil home cooking, where each dish is both nourishing and a vivid expression of the cuisine’s beauty and diversity.
But what’s the story behind the name? In Tamil, SORU means boiled rice—but it holds much more. It’s a symbol of vitality, belonging, and community. In Tamil Nadu, when someone asks “SORU saptiya?” (Did you eat?), it’s more than a question—it’s a warm embrace, a way of saying you matter.
Varsha’s passion goes beyond nutrition. At SORU, she explores, tastes, and documents traditional recipes, preserving the essence of Tamil cuisine while infusing them with modern nutritional insights. Through thoughtfully curated tasting events, pop-ups, and workshops, SORU invites you to rediscover and celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Tamil and South Indian food.
In every plate, SORU is a living archive and a dynamic celebration—a space where the art of healthy eating meets the timeless traditions of home cooking.
