Raku is a traditional Japanese firing technique in which red-hot ceramic pieces are transferred directly from the kiln into a container of combustible materials. In five hours, you will experience all the stages of Raku — firing, reduction, and cooling.

Details
- In this approx 5 hour event we glaze a pre-fired ceramic bowl, fire it with the Raku technique and serve a fresh farm meal curated at the Byool farm. An assortment of pre-made ceramic pieces will be available to be selected from by the participants to glaze and have fired during the event.

- No prior ceramic experience is required. Please wear close-toed shoes and long sleeves/pants (preferably cotton or cotton/blend). The activity will be held outside in nature.
- Dietary restrictions and any allergies to be informed in advance.
- The event is held on a farm with four friendly dogs, a dairy and natural farming. Guests are expected to be mindful of the sanctity of the space and not litter or create a commotion.
- We would be working with inflammable material, hot ceramic pieces, so proper caution is needed from all. Kindly follow all instructions given properly, for everyone’s safety.
- Although Raku process was used for tea services in the 16th century, the process can increase the risk of flaking on the pots, meaning it’s not always food safe.
