About the workshop
The Weaving Workshop provides a hands-on journey into the art of tapestry weaving. In this immersive three-hour session, the participants will master fundamental weaving techniques while exploring an array of colours, patterns, textures, and forms. With a choice of diverse materials, participants can work on traditional frame looms or experiment with unique base objects provided during the workshop. This creative experience sparks imagination and introduces the intricate craft of weaving in a dynamic and engaging way.
The session welcomes all skill levels, with basic weaving techniques introduced to ensure beginners can easily follow along. Participants will receive personalized guidance and support throughout, allowing them to explore the art of tapestry weaving at their own pace and comfort level.
Know the initiative
Save the Loom is a non-profit organization working to preserve and reform the handloom industry by facilitating various interactions with artisans, skilled professionals, and notable achievers in design, textiles, and crafts, while also fostering a deeper appreciation for the local culture.
Know your host
Geethika Pramod, a textile designer at Save The Loom, works with artisans, clusters, and organizations to create new woven narratives. She also leads the experiences division at STL, which focuses on learning programs, craft trails, and workshops.
She is graduate in Textile and Industrial Arts from the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, Geethika has worked on unique initiatives, including designing a line of textiles and sarees for women lawyers in India and conducting weaving learning programs.
- Frame looms and alternative base objects (such as embroidery hoops, cardboard looms, or small wooden blocks)
- Weaving needles and tools
- Various types of yarn (cotton, jute, and synthetic fibers) in different colours and textures
- Fabric strips and ribbons for added texture
- Beads and embellishments for decorative details
- Weaving tools will be provided for the duration of the workshop. These include looms, yarns, shuttles, workbooks, notes, and technical information.
