About the workshop
Join us for a captivating experience in the Mohiniyattam, a classical dance form rooted in Kerala’s tradition. In this workshop, inspired by the renowned Kanak Rele style, you’ll dive into the basics of Nirtta (rhythmic steps) and Nritya (storytelling through dance). You’ll learn essential postures, rhythms, hand gestures, and the expressive art of Abhinaya, bringing every movement to life. In this workshop, you'll learn the basic steps, postures, and gestures of Mohiniyattam, as well as the art of storytelling through expressive dance (Abhinaya). You'll also practice a short choreography to the iconic lullaby "Omanathingal Kidavo" and gain a deeper connection to this traditional art form. No prior experience is required—just a passion to explore Mohiniyattam!

Know your hosts
Anjali Krishnadas has been trained in Mohiniyattam under Padma Bhushan Dr. Kanak Rele, mastering the intricacies of this classical dance form. She has over a decade of experience and has performed on more than 20 prestigious stages across India and abroad. She has also trained in Kathak under Dr. Varada and Indian Folk Dance under Prashanth Bhafalekar, showcasing her versatility across diverse dance traditions. Anjali is a passionate mentor who has guided over 100 students in Mohiniyattam, creating an inclusive and inspiring learning environment.
Ponnu Sanjeev has been trained in Bharatanatyam for over 15 years under Shalini Harikumar, and in Mohiniyattam for over 20 years under Kala Vijayan and Shalini Harikumar in the Kalyanikutty Amma style, and later in the Kanak Rele style from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya. She also trained in Kathakali for nearly 8 years under Guru Damodara Pisharadi. Ponnu has performed on many stages in India and abroad.
