Bento Bento Presents: A Tribute to Midnight Diner – Tokyo Stories by Chef Anumitra

During the days of pandemic binge-watching, one series that captured hearts worldwide was the gentle and deeply human Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories. Inspired by its warmth and storytelling, Chef Anumitra—after her successful Studio Ghibli tribute pop-up—now brings a heartfelt culinary homage to this beloved series at Bento Bento in 2025.

Just like in Midnight Diner, where a late-night eatery in Tokyo serves dishes that resonate deeply with its customers' emotions and stories, this pop-up will offer a curated menu featuring comfort dishes that bring both nostalgia and joy, featuring authentic Japanese ingredients, such as umeboshi, katsuobushi soyu, and Japanese mayo. Don't miss this chance to be a part of a comforting late-night community, in our cozy yet cute space, Bento Bento in Indiranagar.

Menu: Midnight Diner – Tokyo Stories

Starters

  • Umeboshi Onigiri (Veg) – A traditional rice ball, sticky rice encases the iconic Japanese pickled plum, balancing tartness and umami.
  • Corn Dog (Veg) – A Japanese take on the classic street food, featuring a crispy, golden-brown batter.
  • Ham Cutlet – Breaded and fried ham, offering a crispy exterior and tender, flavourful inside.
  • Chicken Cheese Katsu – A Japanese-style chicken cutlet, with a melted cheese centre, encased in crisp panko.
  • ‘Octopus’ Wieners – Sausages carved into octopus shapes and deep-fried to perfection, a nostalgic favourite from Japanese lunchboxes.


Mains

  • Tanmen (Veg Ramen) – A light yet flavourful vegetable ramen, comforting and wholesome.
  • Tonteki – A pan-seared pork steak glazed with a savoury-sweet sauce, served with a side of greens.
  • Crab Toshikoshi Soba – A dish traditionally eaten on New Year's Eve, featuring soba noodles in a light broth with crabsticks.
  • Oyakodon – A beloved rice bowl dish featuring simmered chicken, egg, and onions in a savoury dashi sauce.
  • Pork Miso Soup Set Menu – A hearty miso soup enriched with tender pork, served with rice and pickles.
  • Sautéed Yam Set Menu (Veg) – A simple yet nourishing dish highlighting the natural sweetness of sautéed yam, served with rice and miso soup.
