The first city of Delhi has been witness to much more than what we fathom. This is the place where the first caravans of Sufis from the West arrived and settled. Home to the first dargah of Delhi, this is also the place which was supposed to be the resting place of the last Emperor of the city. Unfortunately the last Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar, was exiled to Burma by the British and he died and was buried there, his last wish never being fulfilled. And just like that, the last palace of the Mughals stands in a crumbling condition, being slowly encroached from all sides, except one, which is safeguarded by the first dargah of Delhi. The last Red Fort, symbolising the declining Mughal power in the most artistic way possible, thus lies in ruins, much like the fate of the Mughals after the 18th century.
Join us to explore the journey of the Sufis as they shifted base to the city of Delhi, which was so influenced by Sufism that it became renowned as Baees Khwaja ki Chaukhat, and to explore the unknown heritage of the Mughals in Mehrauli, from Akbar to Zafar.
