Steps Café
by
Urbanaut
Hurray for adorable, atmospheric places of calm in the middle of Bombay. The Steps in Bandra is a wonderful example of how we can reclaim and reinvent unused (and abused) public spaces. This cafe overlooks this wonderful community space serving great coffee and better views. The service can be slow but you’re there to soak it in. Make a visit.
Native Bombay
by
Urbanaut
The converted ice-factory and art/design space IF:BE is a fast favourite and their cocktail bar and novel Indian restaurant Native is a fantastic addition. Apparently India’s first Negroni bar, the downstairs is perfect for a night-time bar scene and the food upstairs at the restaurant is excellent - Indian fine-dining with strong coastal influences.
Circle Sixty Nine
by
Urbanaut
The naughtily named bistro housed in the gorgeous art-deco stunner that is Kathiwada City House is a real treat. Aditi Dugar - the brains behind Masque (the city’s best restaurant) brings her signature touch to the food at this lovely restaurant, and Sangita Kathiwada, the owner, lends her magical curatorial touch and impeccable design sensibility to the space. We look forward to eating outdoors when the weather is nice, but Circle Sixty Nine is a fantastic place for a family dinner, a romantic date or just a casual lunch. Basically - a restaurant for all seasons and reasons.
Bastian - At The Top
by
Urbanaut
Towering above the city on the 48th floor, Bastian - At The Top is an exciting addition to the popular restaurant. With 360 views, a swimming pool (!), great cocktails and their signature high quality menu - this is a great spot for a celebration or to take friends when they visit the city
Araku Coffee
by
Urbanaut
Those familiar with Araku coffee will celebrate the launch in Bombay. The brand brings its signature aesthetic and aroma to the city, with a brilliant menu designed by Aditi Dugar of Masque and helmed by chef Rahul Sharma. The special bit about the Bombay branch? It’s India’s first ever restaurant dedicated to regenerative agriculture. Regenerative agriculture goes a step beyond sustainability, in that it leaves the soil richer than when you began. We are massive fans of Araku in Bangalore and thrilled to see this landmark in Bombay.
BANDRA BORN
by
Urbanaut
You know when you’re looking for something fresh, buzzing and new, but still somewhat under the radar? Bandra Born is just that. A 12-week pop-up brought to you by the beloved and brilliant Chef Gresham of Saltwater Grill (and in fact, the pop-up is cleverly located in the same venue but with a distinct riff on branding, menu and vibe) - we loved the inventive drinks by Pankaj of Countertop (rum and sugarcane for the win) and the fabulous small plates and mains that were part-nostalgia, full-taste. Make sure you reserve a table before this pop-up potentially shuts at the end of December. You’ll be wise to go back a couple of times as their menu is extensive, with plenty of amazing vegetarian options. Make sure you say hi to the ever-friendly Bandra born and bred chef who’s always around to ensure his guests are having the best time. We are.
Toast Doughnut Shop
by
Urbanaut
A sweet little owner-run café serving up fresh and seasonal food inspired by London, Middle East and Italy. Their menu features all-time favourites, from a variety of toast-and-toppings to cheeseburgers and rigatoni. But, go there for their doughnuts. And sit in their little open air space. This is Bombay’s first handmade brioche donut shop - freshly fried and slow proofed for maximum deliciousness. We really don’t think there’s a better place to get donuts in the city. They also have a small but mighty selection of sandwiches, salads and wraps - making the cafe an ideal spot for lunch.
Kuckeliku Breakfast House
by
Urbanaut
Kuckeliku is a dovetail of art and food, bringing together culinary comforts and art to tease the mind. You can have breakfast for lunch and dinner with a side of art, given the expert eye of chef Nuzha Ebrahim and the café’s partnership with Art and Charlie — the works of a new artist are displayed every five months to spark conversations.
Americano
by
Urbanaut
We love the community drinking and dining feel at Americano. An inventive, discerning menu and just the right vibe at night make it a very popular choice. The new American At Home service offers DIY pizza and pasta kits so you can have a fresh, authentic Italian meal in the safety of your home.
La Loca Maria
by
Urbanaut
The excellent La Loca Maria by Chef Manuel Oliviera gets a reboot - and this time with drinks! Mezcal cocktails, flowing tequila, an extensive wine menu now accompany the slew of incredible Spanish dishes on offer. The fish tacos, pork belly/pork ribs, Gambas Al Ajillo and their generous vegetarian menu offerings are all fantastic and to be savoured.
The Gelato Bar
by
Urbanaut
A pleasantly purple gelato bar straight out of an Archie’s comic strip - we love their dark chocolate gelato and their vegan and sugar free options shouldn’t be scoffed at. Creamy goodness that you can devour in a cup or cone or smash between a croissant or cookie.
The Craftery by Subko
by
Urbanaut
All the goodness of the Subko outlet in Bandra - but this larger location is where the breads and bakes are freshly made every morning and sent to the Bandra cafe as well as delivered around the city. We love the airy warehouse space and look forward to events hosted by team Subko. In the meantime, we’ll be making our way to the bylanes of Byculla for our afternoon cuppa.
Veronica's
by
Urbanaut
A wine and all-day breakfast place launched by the fantastic team behind Bombay Canteen, Veronica’s is housed in a cozy little bungalow in Bandra. We love the carafes and wine to go with their bites and open-faced sandwiches. They don’t take reservations and part of the fun is waiting in line and soaking in the atmosphere. Great coffee to boot.
Swati Snacks
by
Priyanka Kripalani
A Bombay stalwart - this is where you get street food without the street (i.e it’s clean). Not a ‘cute’ cafe but they never fail to satisfy and the long lines outside at all times are proof enough
Knead by Moshe Shek
by
Urbanaut
South Bombay insiders flocked to Moshe’s for years for its bakes, cakes and superlative quality - and after a hiatus, the famed chef is back with a bakery, cafe and restaurant in buzzing Kala Ghoda. We love the decor (and the chairs!), and their food menu is extensive and peppered with middle eastern delights that are the Israeli chef’s speciality. An airy, comfortable coffee shop vibe - you can also get freshly baked sourdough and other breads if you place your order early enough.
Cafe Panama
by
Urbanaut
Set in the same spot as the beloved Cafe Zoe is the lush tropical green paradise that is now Cafe Panama - a resto-bar serving up European-Mexican fare at Todi Mills. On the menu are elements that go beyond (but do justice to) the expected staples of salsa, guac, and tacos. Sourdough sandwiches done cuban style, tamales, Argentinian flatbread with fermented hot sauce and queso fresco, hints of chorizo, burrata cheese, brazilian pork, all served up with fresh breezy cocktails featuring passion fruit, kumquat and other delights. Step into Cafe Panama and experience the feeling of a succulent meal on a sultry Havana afternoon.
The Love Fools
by
Urbanaut
Set in a quaint heritage property, The Lovefools is a specialty dining concept that takes as much pride in its culinary curation as the experimental experience. The Mediterranean-style setting sets the tone for the highlight — an 8 or 12 course gourmet meal that invokes incredible flavours through a myriad of techniques. Saturday nights are for community tables and they also curate private dinners on request.
Bombay to Barcelona Library Cafe
by
Urbanaut
Despite being innocuously called a library café, the story behind Bombay to Barcelona is tear-jerking. It’s run by Amin Sheikh who went from begging for alms to writing an autobiography in order to find this café, which employs street children trying to get back on their feet and sponsors their education. The European-style establishment offers Spanish and Indian food flanked by tonnes of books and a grand piano to boot.
Tori
by
Urbanaut
Helmed by ex-Nobu chef Pongsak Catley, Tori presents a whirlwind of flavours from Asia and Latin America. Despite being a stone’s throw away from buzzing Carter Road, Tori’s inner sanctum is starkly different — the indoor-outdoor areas are designed both for a fun night out and a formal family sit-down. The drinks menu is exhaustive so you won’t be running out of choices anytime soon.
Arbab
by
Urbanaut
An authentic Lebanese fine dining restaurant and the brainchild of restaurateurs Faiz and Fahad Kadawalla. You’ll find the best flavours from the streets of Beirut in the ever-familiar Bandra. You’ll find all the crowd favourites; hummus, mezzeh, roasted meats shish tawouk.

Eau Bar
by
Urbanaut
A chic upscale bar at the much loved Oberoi, complete with Art Deco interiors, serving some great cocktails crafted by UK mixologist Andrew Pearson. The views and outdoor feels are enviable as well, and the live music scene makes it a pretty popular late night destination.
The Yoga House
by
Urbanaut
A laidback, mindful yoga centre with a healthy café to boot. Sign up for sessions at the Yoga Shala, or treat yourself to yum eats made with farm-fresh organic ingredients. The open and outdoor space is inviting and the ambience, wholesome.
Magazine Street Kitchen
by
Urbanaut
A 2500 experimental kitchen in the by lanes of Byculla (the approach isn’t amazing but the space is wonderful). You can join workshops with celebrity chefs (and eat what you make) or organize a private session for your friends
Gustoso
by
Urbanaut
Gustoso is a little bit of everything Italy — a pizzeria here, a trattoria there. Despite not fitting into a label, it is very authentic, as you’ll see once you sample the homely and flavoursome food and take in the ambience. Regulars at the restaurant rave about the pizzas, which is transportive in its flavours. You must try the cocktails, which complement the fare wonderfully yet hold their own quite well.
Leaping Windows
by
Urbanaut
A nook, a book and piping hot coffee — that’s Leaping Windows in a nutshell. It’s a gorgeous café with a reading room in the basement that’s packed with comic books, from the popular to the cult classics. The menu features continental, European and classic American fare that perfectly complements all the reading you’re going to do.
Cafe Marina
by
Urbanaut
Looking quite like the South of France in the middle of glitzy Mumbai, Café Marina is an instant ‘yes’ for folks looking for great views of the Arabian Sea and the Gateway of India. It comes just as highly recommended for its kebabs and grills and has an unpretentious vibe. The ambience is warm and welcoming, making it perfect for sunset aperitivos with friends or loved ones.
The Daily All Day
by
Urbanaut
The Daily is by far one of the most popular restobars in town. It’s most well known for its Sunday brunches, which feature four course menus with ever-flowing cocktails, beers and sangrias. The vibe is laidback and easy, although it does pick up several paces in DJ nights, which are a different sort of fun altogether. We love that there are regular live performances that pay special attention to underrated homegrown artists.
The Clearing House
by
Urbanaut
An old ice factory becomes a gorgeous fine dining restaurant that’s etched in the hearts of SoBo folks. It’s helmed by chef and restaurateur duo Rishad Nathani and Nitin Kulkarni of Indigo fame, so you can expect a sophisticated ambience with fantastic food and drinks to boot.
The Bombay Canteen
by
Urbanaut
All day restaurant and bar offering inventive Indian cuisine and a relaxed yet fun atmosphere
Subko Specialty Coffee Roasters and Bakehouse
by
Urbanaut
Tucked away in the bylanes of Bandra is a roastery, bakehouse and experiential cafe all housed under one beautifully designed roof. Only raw materials enter Subko’s roastery - all the coffee and bakehouse products are crafted from scratch, in house. SUBKO will, no doubt, be successful in meeting their goal of reimagining the Indian subcontinent as a legitimate contributor to the global specialty coffee and craft baking movements. Their founder and chief roaster Rahul Reddy has a Q Grader certification - widely considered the globe’s premier coffee ‘sommelier’ certification for sensory analysis of coffee and their ‘Head of Bread’ Daniel Trulson is among the premier talents in bread making and viennoiserie in India. We love everything about them - their coffee and bakery products are truly outstanding; their unrelenting commitment to sustainability should set a standard for other independent f&b brands and their thoughtful focus on indigenous design and aesthetics is apparent at every touch point.
Dome at the InterContinental
by

Kitchen Garden Colaba
by
Priyanka Kripalani
Great spot for brunch! With healthy options and ingredients sourced from all over the country. These guys were among the initial farm to table proponents and their success is proof of their quality.
Cecconi's Mumbai
by
Urbanaut
This sophisticated Italian restaurant hosts lunch, dinner and Sunday brunches against stunning views of the Arabian Sea. They’re best known for their wood-fired pizzas with toppings that run the gamut from aubergine and capers to Salami Napoli and anchovies. Mumbai’s food connoisseurs will like to know that the Italian chain dates back to 1978; its cosmopolitan outlook shines through in the Venetian culinary approaches, gourmet Italian dishes and upscale Mayfair-shaped decor.
Brooke Bond Taj Mahal Tea House
by
Urbanaut
Atmospheric cafe featuring a huge variety of teas, some surprisingly good coffee and a seasonal food menu - also a great place to work out of
Kitchen Garden by Suzette
by
Urbanaut
Local, fresh, healthy - Kitchen Garden by Suzette (which is next door and offers delicious not-so-healthy crepes) is a trusted choice. They have other locations but this one wins for coziness.

by
Urbanaut
Tucked away in a busy bylane of Kala Ghoda - this cafe truly lives up to its name. Quiet and intimate with a seasonal menu and brewing some of the best coffee in the city - it’s also a perfect work spot
KOKO
by
Urbanaut
Asian fine dining that becomes a pretty raucous spot after hours. Go here for a complete evening - great food, drinks, and vibe
Farmers’ Café
by
Urbanaut
This cafe used to be a real hole in the wall but they moved to a spanking new location in Oct 2019. While we miss the coziness of the old space, the food remains high-quality and great for a healthy meal (with all the taste)
Mag St. Bandra
by
Urbanaut
Popular cafe/kitchen Mag St. Cafe belongs to a stable of eating houses (like The Table, Mag st. Kitchen etc.) that have long been a bastion of South Bombay. No longer! They’ve crossed to sea link to add to the ever-growing and always buzzing Bandra scene with an eclectic menu and stacked craft cocktail offering as well. We like.

Kosha
One of Mumbai’s oldest surviving Irani cafes, Kyani’s is a historically rich haunt where the food speaks for itself.

Thai Pavilion
by

Travel to Thailand without leaving Mumbai — all you have to do is head to Thai Pavilion. Months of intensive study and culinary research went into the making of this restaurant, and it shows in the ever-changing flavoursome menu. The decor is contemporary yet rooted in nostalgia, so you can expect a leisurely meal with eyes on the interactive kitchen where the chefs make magic.

by

Grab breakfast after a morning walk or run at Gallops - the legendary establishment at the Race Course
Sun and Moon Korean Restaurant 1st floor 해와달
by
Anushka Sani
This restaurant started off in someone’s living room but now has a proper address. Big portions, good for sharing and limited vegetarian options. They also offer karaoke (albeit not in private rooms).
Mag St Cafe
by
Urbanaut
From the illustrious tram behind The Table, Mag St. Kitchen and more, comes this delightful all-day cafe and bar. Breakfast? Check. Fresh baked goodness? Check. Random mid-day cocktail? Oh yes. Delicious and wholesome curry lunch - also on the menu. We love places that can’t be type cast and that cater to different moods and whims. Tucked away in leafy Colaba, we think this cafe caters well to the cool crowd. Head over.
KMC*
by
Urbanaut
Tucked away into the back of fine-dining restaurant Ekaa comes their more approachable all-day cafe and co-work space. They have a limited but excellent menu with experimental dishes, coffee for day-time work and wine cocktails and beer for a post-work tipple. They even have a large conference room that can be rented out for team meetings. We quite love this hybrid co-work/cafe concept where the food is excellent and the ambience premium yet unpretentious

by
Urbanaut
After the huge success of its first outpost - which was tiny and cozy but served no booze - Izumi opened doors to its bigger offering in early 2019. Your chance to get authentic Japanese and possibly the best ramen in the city
Good Flippin' Burgers
by
Urbanaut
These burgers are seriously flippin’ good👏🏼. No jokes. Their bread is excellent, with the meaty options having garnered their own fan following. So whether you want a ‘proper’ hamburger or just want a hearty veg option, you’ll find it here.
Bombay Coffee House
by
Sreya Muthukumar
Quintessential coffee shop with a commendable all-day breakfast. Decorated with pictures of Mumbai from previous centuries, Bombay Coffee House is a great place to spend an evening with friends, or even by yourself.
Britannia & Co.
by
Simin
This legendary Irani Cafe with its checkered tablecloths and bow-tied bearers, is one of Bombay’s most beloved restaurants. Feast on their legendary Berry Pulav, a Bombay version of the classic Iranian dish with a twist!
PCO Cocktail Bar
by
Urbanaut
Decadent Delhi bar PCO (Pass Code Only), makes an entrance in Mumbai in an open-air space in Lower Parel. Hidden behind the decidedly loud “Mansionz” store (but then, aren’t all speakeasy bars hidden in plain sight?), this outdoor but shaded spot is a great place to savour a few fantastic cocktails. While PCO in Delhi stays true to its speakeasy, prohibition-era vibe, the Bombay outpost is a much more “open for all” place. A spot for early evening drinks that you can follow up with food from Pings or Saz (all owned by the prolific team behind Passcode Hospitality). The music can get really loud and you won’t get the same avant garde quality you get in Delhi so bear that in mind.
Cafe Dela Paix
by
Simin
A window seat at this charming Irani Cafe is just the spot from which to admire the sights and sounds of Bombay. Sip on their classic tea or newly introduced coffee and ask the owner Gustad to make you a delicious Bun Omelette with Cheese.
The Nutcracker
by
Sreya Muthukumar
Cozy cafe with neat decor and lovely food. Great place to grab a wholesome bite and spend time with friends, family or a book! A weekend breakfast here is a must.
Slink & Bardot
by
Urbanaut
A bar Bombay deserves. After a pandemic induced hiatus, the ever charming Slink is back in its adorable abode near the Worli fishing village. Enter the red door for its signature old-world decor - now with an elevated cocktail program to boot. Their food is not to be scoffed at either. If you want to enjoy a good meal, get there early and follow up the evening with a proper bar night. Or just head over late for a more raucous time out.
ESTELLA
by
Urbanaut
A modern Australian fine dining restaurant with enviable views of the Arabian Sea. Replete with roomy cabanas and a speakeasy vibe—designed by Sameep Padora—the restaurant is a celebrity favourite for both ambience and culinary creations. You’ll find Australian faves intersecting with European and Asian flavours.
Parsi Dairy Farm
by
Urbanaut
Don’t you love it when a beloved, old-school brand reinvents itself without changing its identity and soul? Well, we do. Parsi Dairy Farm was a staple for kids in the 90s and with its latest rebrand, we think children of the 2020s (yikes!) will also consider them a beloved childhood brand. Go for their signature kulfis, sweets and candy factory vibes that promise to be a hit with sweets lovers of all ages.
Ode
by
Urbanaut
Bombay’s most beloved restaurateur Rahul Akerkar returns (again!) with Ode. A fine dining restaurant with a brilliant wine list and an exciting cocktail program along with his signature wood-fired authentic pizzas and inventive menu. We miss the simple days of Indigo and even loved Qualia during its brief existence, and so no restaurant list in the city would be complete without including his latest offering. Ode is a great place for a date or for an indulgent night out with friends and family.
Masque
by
Amishi Parekh
Forage-to-fork with Kashmiri undertones - this ingredient driven restaurant gets props for their sustainable approach, elevated ambience and inventive cuisine
Coppetto Artisan Gelato
by
Sreya Muthukumar
Light and creamy, the gelato at Coppetto is some of the best to be found in the city. This minimalist space doesn't have much more than a few seats and a gelato counter, but it's all you need for a quick dessert fix.
The Village Shop
by
Urbanaut
Tucked away from Bandra’s hustle and bustle is The Village Shop, a quaint eatery that specialises in organic fare. Patrons rave about the calm and friendly atmosphere which is one-upped only by the delicious food that’s both healthy and flavoursome. Their menu packs a great selection of vegan, vegetarian and meat dishes as well as health drinks including kombucha.
The Tanjore Tiffin Room
by
Urbanaut
This authentic eatery goes beyond the stereotypical idli-vada-sambar trio to introduce mouthwatering Tamil cuisine and some more dishes from other South Indian regions. The tasting platter is a big hit with regulars, as the friendly staff explains the origins and tastes of each so that diners choose the perfect dish for their palate. The menu is very well curated, as is the decor. It’s no wonder that this holistic approach brings all the South Indian food lovers to the yard!
Rue Du Liban
by
Urbanaut
Mumbai’s new go-to for Levantine cuisine served with a contemporary twist. The Beirut-inspired moody interiors only amp up the authenticity level you’ll experience from first bite to last. It’s glamorous in an understated manner, and a crowd favourite for socialising over dinner and drinks. In short, you’ll find it’s just as much about the experience as the food itself.
Plural Restaurant
by
Urbanaut
A decidedly evolved south-east Asian restaurant serving only vegetarian and vegan-friendly food. Kohlrabi, Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower, sinful vegan desserts - sign us up! Plural is an ambient restaurant in Kala Ghoda with a focus on flavours and a keen eye on sustainability. We love that it’s vegetarian and hope that meat eaters will give it a try too.
Sea Lounge
by
Priyanka Kripalani
If you can’t stay at the iconic Taj Mahal hotel - indulge in a pricey “british experience” by trying the High Tea here.
Ideal Corner
by
Urbanaut
It’s no secret that Mumbai is a hotspot for delectable Parsi cuisine with its host of charming, age-old Irani style cafes. Ideal corner is a great fort-based eatery at which to sample everything from Dhansak and Farcha with chips to kebabs, Akuri Sandwiches and more.
Café 792
by
Urbanaut
A decade-old cosy outdoors café specialising in Parsi cuisine. Head here for healthy and wholesome snacks and meals that are just as light in the pocket. They also support small and local home bakers — and the relaxed ambience and friendly staff tie it all together.
antiSOCIAL
by
Urbanaut
The best destination in the city for alternative gigs and independent music. While the warehouse venue has hosted many international artists, it’s a great place to discover and catch Indian musicians.
Soul Fry
by
Urbanaut
If you’re in Bandra and looking for some unpretentious fun - head to Soul Fry. With fun karaoke on most nights, and a packed crowd of loyal regulars - this is where you can get your fill of Goan food and snacks. We love that it’s low-key yet so fun - literally the best of Goa right in Bandra!
Toast Pasta Bar
by
Urbanaut
Founded by the genius chef/baker behind the sinful cafe Toast Doughnut Shop, this pasta bar stays true to authentic Italian cuisine (they’ve got more than Pasta on their menu!) and serve up some great cocktails too. We love the cozy space - it’s rare to find a place in Bombay that’s small and still serves alcohol, and the servers are fantastic. All in all it feels like you’re in a culinary school lab (in a good way). There’s an outdoor area as well so it’s perfect for all-weather dining.
Bombay Sweet Shop
by
Urbanaut
From the folks who brought us the amazing Bombay Canteen comes the Bombay Sweet Shop. Traditional Indian sweets (mithai) are imaginatively reinterpreted - leading to unique and unexpected combinations like a caramel custard popsicle or a bread and butter ice cream! This is not the ‘mithai’ made by your granny - but she may be a fan nonetheless
Seesaw
by
Urbanaut
SeeSaw is a playful, all-day dining cafe with a lovely outdoor area and a gourmet pet menu! Suffice to say, this place takes pet-friendly to another level. Managed by Aditi Dugar - who brings us the most delightful Masque and other well-respected dining concepts, SeeSaw caters to the well-travelled Bombayite and features a cuisine agnostic menu. They have healthy, delicious food with a smattering of influences from around the world - their Asian menu is fantastic.
Ekaa
by
Urbanaut
This ingredient driven restaurant, fronted by Chef Niyati who earned her chops at the much renowned Noma, deserves its hype. The inventive dishes at Ekaa all come rooted in memory - with inspiration and ingredients sourced from all over the country (think sea urchins from Tamil Nadu). Minimal decor, an open kitchen to watch the maverick chefs make magic, a private dining room for larger groups, and furniture made by local artisans all add to the charm of this fine-dine spot. The restaurant scene in Mumbai has certainly upped its game and Ekaa is a fitting entrant to the arena.
