Join us for a lecture in a bar, that asks a question most news consumers rarely pause to consider:
Who really pays for the news you read?
About the Lecture
For most audiences today, journalism functions much like any other product or service, shaped by business models, incentives, and the financial structures that sustain it. Just like education, healthcare, or streaming platforms, news organisations must operate within economic systems that determine what survives and what disappears.
So what happens when journalism is funded by corporate advertising? Or when governments become the primary source of financial support? But, there's a way for audiences to intersect - healthily, happily, with utility - with news organisations that aren't run by corporate or governments. This talk will explain how.
