Gauley Bhai: Contemporary folk/rock
Gauley Bhai—meaning “brothers from back home”—is a contemporary folk-rock quartet formed in 2017 in Bangalore by Veecheet, Anudwatt, Joe, and Sidhant. Drawing from their roots in Kalimpong and Calicut and experiences of migration, their music blends Nepali folk, South Indian rhythms, blues, rock, and hip hop into a genre-fluid, nomadic sound. Singing primarily in Nepali, the band connects across cultures through emotional storytelling and rich sonic textures. Their acclaimed debut album Joro (2019) explored love, loss, and displacement, followed by extensive touring across India, Nepal, and the UK.
In 2025, Gauley Bhai return with their second album Sunbari (A Field Where Gold Grows), featuring a more produced, textured sound that weaves folk-blues, hip hop, Afrobeat, and electronic influences. Beyond the stage, the band is deeply involved in community-driven music initiatives, supporting youth from marginalized regions through mentorship and collaborative projects.
