Times New Roman is a monthly curated theatre-reading and discussion series that responds to the cultural, social, and emotional climate of our time. The series brings together actors, writers, and audiences for an intimate, low-friction theatre experience centred around live readings, rehearsed excerpts, poetry, and devised original work.
About the Workshop:
Each edition of Times New Roman is curated around themes relevant to the present moment, such as:
Social media | digital identity | algorithms | loneliness and connection in modern relationships | work burnout | rapid cultural change
The aim is to reflect the texture of contemporary life: how we communicate, consume, and cope—using theatre as a lens for shared reflection.
This format holds space for what we call “transformational theatre”—a process for both performer and audience to question, reflect on, and explore daily lived topics that are widely felt yet not necessarily voiced. Therefore the series is appealing to both theatre practitioners and non-theatre audiences or people curious about theatre, writing, or performance. It is also a space to foster dialogue between artists and community members.
Facilitators:
This series is conducted by The Self Centre, a Bangalore-based theatre collective focused on original writing, intimate performance, and dialogue-driven work that reflects contemporary relationships and inner lives. The Self Centre recently presented Love in the Time of Algorithms, a production exploring modern connection, emotional distance, and communication in the digital age. Times New Roman carries forward this ethos—using theatre not as spectacle, but as a space for presence, honesty, and human inquiry.
