“I’d argue that poets, when looking at a menu, first fall in love with the sound of the dish; then the food comes out and we fall in love with the sight of the dish. And when we finally eat, we fall in love with the taste. This sequence is what I call the sensory tease,” says poet Dorothy Chan.
To turn the sensory tease into an experience, Dillipoetry and The Fio Table invite you to The Poet at the Brunch Table—a two-hour immersive workshop that brings into play food as a genre melded with reflective writing exercises to help one delve into themes of intimacy, memories, loss & friendships. Here, brunch is a metaphor, and plate is a page.
With Dillipoetry’s signature coalescing approach to verse and The Fio Table’s ode to the Mediterranean coastline, the workshop will encompass self-probing, active participation, creative writing exercises, and facilitated reflection. We will also discuss rituals & traditions across cultures that brought together food & poetry - and what mark did this interaction leave in the world of literature.
Bring you friends, and leave your writing blocks (and diet) at the door. We can only accommodate a maximum of 12 people for now. Registration will close once we reach capacity.
