Tamil Jazz Collective
Live at The Humming Tree, Bangalore
March 19th, 2026
Tamil Jazz Collective hits the road for a special 5-city, 5-day tour across India in collaboration with Greater Than.
Blending the lyricism of Tamil with the harmony and improvisational spirit of jazz, Tamil Jazz Collective reimagines what jazz can sound like when it speaks in a new tongue. What began as an exploration of translating jazz standards into Tamil has now evolved into a distinctive sonic identity, emotive, intimate, and deeply expressive.
The Gliding Emotions Tour celebrates their latest single, a piece that floats between vulnerability and groove, space and swing, carried by rich vocal textures, dynamic improvisation, and a band that listens as deeply as it plays.
Special Opening Feature
Instead of a traditional opening act, the evening will begin with a specially curated literary segment in collaboration with The Humming Tree:
A 15-minute live reading of Tamil Pulp Fiction
A 15-minute conversation with Blaft Publications
I will read from different portions in the story and end without the big reveal at the end, so the suspense lingers.
-Rashmi (blaft publications)
“Shabash, Susheela!” by Pattukottai Prabhakar, The Blaft Anthology of Tamil Pulp Fiction Vol.3
Pattukkottai Prabhakar started his writing career with the weekly magazine Anandha Vikatan in 1977, and has since written 25 films scripts, episodes for over 70 television serials, and over 300 pocket novels. Most of his novels feature the detective duo Susheela and Bharath, who operate Moonlight Detective Agencies. Susheela is famous for her huge collection of t-shirts, each bearing a different titillating slogan, while Bharath is famous for... well, mostly for his outrageously deplorable conduct around women in the workplace. Do remember these books were written in the 80’s and that says a lot about the style of humour and banter there in.
In “Shabash, Susheela!” A young woman named Saranya walks into the Moonlight Detective Agency office claiming she has the gift of ESP. Saranya warns Susheela and Bharath of the imminent murder-that-will- take place of the Hollywood starlet Catherine Da Vinci who is flying into Chennai for a film audio release function. The detective duo set off to catch a mysterious man who is a master of disguise donning many faces one of them being impersonating a film journalist who has been trying to get intel about the actresses’ itinerary. He seems to be always two steps ahead, eluding the detective duo and the police leaving behind taunting notes that promise he will accomplish his mission- killing the actress in plain sight. With the help of the psychic Saranya, will Bharath and Susheela thwart his plans?
A celebration of Tamil storytelling before we glide into musical storytelling.
