DR BHAU DAJI LAD MUSEUM & ART DECO ALIVE! PRESENT TWIN-CITY SYMPOSIUM  

Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum & Art Deco Alive! present a day of ideas exchange, inspiring debate and driving conversations around heritage advocacy and preservation in a new, developing India by bringing together leading voices in architecture, design, policy making, academia, and the arts. Through a series of illustrated presentations and discussions, we hope to acknowledge the lasting influence of the timeless Art Deco movement on our urban landscape and modern living.

TALK 3: Segueing Miami and Mumbai: Mapping Correlations and Unique Manifestations

A personal exploration of South Beach masterpieces viewed from the lens of a Mumbaikar who grew up in the Deco district of Churchgate, while focusing on the juxtapositions and commonalities.

With Navin Ramani

Speaker: Navin Ramani, Author of Bombay Art Deco Architecture

Vancouver-based Navin Ramani has served on the board of the Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL), co-chaired MDPL’s 2005 edition of Art Deco Weekend, and led 100+ architectural tours of the Miami Beach Art Deco District. He is the author of Bombay Art Deco Architecture (awarded the Best Art Deco Book of the Year 2007 by MDPL) and lectures on Mumbai’s Deco design heritage.

TALK 4: A Personal Exploration of the Timeless Allure of Art Deco Jewellery

A look at history and inspirations behind glamorous trinkets inspired by Deco design interlaced with the speaker’s personal experience as a jewellery designer and the heirlooms in his collection.

With Shaill Jhaveri

Speaker: Founder- Shaill New York

A graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York, Shaill Jhaveri’s precious jewellery is inventive, bold and contemporary. He is the recipient of the DeBeers Diamond Today award and the Intergold Award from the World Gold Council. Hailing from a jeweller family in Mumbai, Jhaveri lives and works in New York.
