An unsung war hero whose family did not know the soldier’s story, till they met Gautam Hazarika. The heroism features in his book The Forgotten Indian Prisoners of World War II recently published by Penguin. Gautam will speak about the book and interview Capt. Mohan Honawar’s family on what it means to find out how he gave his life to save his men.

Author Bio: Gautam Hazarika is a Singapore based ex-banker who now researches World War II in Southeast Asia. His focus is on stories lesser known there such as the Indian army, INA, the anti-Japanese resistance and war crimes trials, and has spoken about them at museums, WWII conferences and Literary festivals in India/Singapore/UK. The Forgotten Indian Prisoners of World War II, published by Penguin India and Pen & Sword UK, is his first book. It was launched recently in London at The Houses of Parliament by Baroness Verma and by the National University of Singapore. It has received wide coverage in the Indian press, including how his events with sons/ daughters of soldiers in the book speaking of their family, brings the human stories to the forefront.
