Sarmaya x ALT EFF's Wildlife Film Screening event will showcase the film 'The Leopard’s Tribe'. This is part of the outreach initiative for Sarmaya's exhibition 'In the Dappled Light' on view until 4th May at Sarmaya Arts Foundation.

The Leopard’s Tribe (Miriam Chandy Menacherry / India / 40 mins / Marathi, Hindi, English / 2022)Mumbai authorities plan to axe thousands of trees to expand a mass transit system. Home to the 10,000-strong Warli tribe, a scuffle unfolds to protect the forest and the leopard that the tribe worships. The Bhoir family find they are at the forefront of a battle to save the green lungs of India’s financial capital, the last natural forest in a megapolis. They join forces with a hip-hop band, get legal counsel and fight the land grab, home to 290 species of wildlife including the highest density of leopards anywhere in the world. This is the story of a tribal couple, marginalised by mainstream society, forced to be leaders to defend the forest, their home. Their story redefines the role of indigenous communities and conservation in one of the fastest growing metropolises in the world.

Kindly reach the location 15 minutes before the screening time.
