Sarmaya x ALT EFF's Film Screening event will showcase short films for kids. This is part of the outreach initiative for Sarmaya's exhibition 'In the Dappled Light' on view until 4th May at Sarmaya Arts Foundation.

The films showcased will be:

Saving The Bone-Swallower (Mayuresh Hendre / India / 16 mins 29 secs / English, Assamese | 2023)

Saving the Bone-swallower explores the fight for survival of the critically endangered Greater Adjutant storks, with fewer than 2,000 left globally. The film follows Purnima Devi Barman, a grassroots conservationist, who mobilises rural Assamese women to save these birds from a desolate landfill while providing new livelihoods. Alongside Dr. Samshul Ali, they raise two orphaned stork chicks, showcasing the power of community-based conservation and the deep bond between humans and nature.

The Egret River (Wan-Ling Liu / Taiwan / 20 mins 20 secs / No Dialogue / 2022)

Among the tall buildings of the city, the lonely guard hides a beautiful field that no one knows, and meets an egret there; but the expansion of the city never stops, one day the field is destroyed, the egret escapes without a trace, the lonely guard begins to see mysterious illusions… “The Egret River” presents the spiritual connection between man and nature with a unique and delicate caring perspective, and tells gentle and meaningful stories in an exquisite art style

Shera (Arun Fulara / India / 19 mins 46 secs / Kumaoni / 2023)

When 11 year old Monu’s parents decide to migrate from their remote Himalayan village to the city, he realises that he may never be able to see SHERA, the elusive leopard that lives in the forests around his village. Everyone in the village seems to have seen her but Monu. As the day of departure nears, Monu grows despondent but his best friend Raju is determined to give him the best parting gift he can think of – a view of SHERA.
