Join us on the 13th of December for a cosmic detective story, as we learn about how stars help us discover the history of the universe.
About the Lecture
How do you study the history of something as vast as a galaxy? You read the stars.
In this talk, Commonwealth Scholar and astrophysicist Preksha Sethia introduces Galactic Archaeology, the science of using stars as time capsules to decode the Milky Way’s evolution.
You’ll explore:
- How a star’s temperature, colour, and chemical “fingerprints” reveal when and where it was born
- How astronomers identify families of stars that once lived in ancient star clusters
- How we know that parts of our galaxy were formed by merging with others
- What stellar chemistry tells us about the cosmic environments that shaped life itself
Accessible, magical, and deeply visual, this session shows how the universe preserves its memories, and how humanity is learning to read them.
About the Lecturer
Preksha Sethia is an astrophysics scholar from University College London and a Master Teacher with the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC). Passionate about science outreach, she has helped students around the world discover over 200 preliminary asteroids.
Her work lies at the intersection of research and public engagement, making the cosmos feel both wondrous and within reach.
