Dive into the process of adapting literary works into contemporary music
With over 30 years of experience in performance and composition, Bruce Lee Mani and MD Pallavi lead an exploration of musicianship, songwriting, composition & arrangement for musicians and music-enthusiasts alike.
Their recent project, "Kayaka" explores Vachanas (that which is spoken). These rhythmic open verses in Kannada date back to the 11th and 12th Century and offer uncompromising insights into Indian society and culture of the time. And they remain as relevant today as they were a thousand years ago. Adapting their literary form to music allows for contemporary interpretations and gives access to ancient forms for a whole new generation.
It is the process of doing this that the artists share in this masterclass through detailed break-downs of compositions, discussions on the stylistic choices, arrangements and influences; followed by a freewheeling Q&A.
