Mahim Typewalk with Tanya

This is a fun exploratory walk around Mahim where typography meets stories of Mahim. I narrate stories of residents and business owners have told me, weaving them with histories about their signs. A saint and some serifs come together to tell you more about Mahim. You get a guided tour about all kinds of signs and letterforms around us, their history and materiality and contextualise it for a modern day Mahim neighbourhood.

Tanya George is an independent typographer, type designer, and design educator based in Bombay. She pursues a wide-ranging independent practice that includes artistic pursuits anchored in letterforms as well as designing letters for brand identities as well as fonts across different Indian Scripts. She also conducts TypeWalks around Mumbai, along with typography workshops, and writes about type. She is a docent and India correspondent for the Letterform Archive.
