Lines & Lore: A Linocut Block Printmaking Workshop with Kuchbhi Studio inspired by the early maps of India
Catch a glimpse of India’s earliest maps- artful blends of memory, myth, and terrain that shaped how the subcontinent first imagined itself. These evocative cartographies set the mood for a session rooted in storytelling through line and texture.
Discover the technique of printmaking and try a new artistic medium with this hands-on workshop introduction into relief printmaking with a linocut block. Learn to carve blocks and stamps of your own design or choose from our pre-made ones. Through this detailed session on printmaking, take home an edition of prints, linoblocks and a working understanding about the process of relief printing to continue and develop the technique on your own. This workshop is designed as a great starting point to printmaking which can be experienced as a fun filled educational art activity appropriate for beginners, artists and non-artist alike.
Kuchbhi is an independent art design & printmaking studio space with our name 'kuchbhi' defining us in spirit and practice. The studio is not only a space equipped with the tools artists need to make prints but also attempts to provide a headspace and breathing room with a strong sense of play. Our work involves exploration, experimentation and intersection between mediums as we place ourselves in a certain unknown.
This workshop will be facilitated by kuchbhi studio at Sarmaya Arts Foundation in tandem with our new exhibition Odyssey of the Rupee: From India to the World.
Marking 75 years of the Indian Rupee, Odyssey of the Rupee is Sarmaya’s most ambitious exhibition yet. Curated by Dr Shailendra Bhandare of the Ashmolean Museum, University of Oxford, with Sarmaya Arts Foundation, the showcase spans centuries of currency, from ancient punch-marked coins to the first coin minted in Independent India. The exhibition also explores how the rupee travelled beyond borders, featuring beautiful and rare coins and notes from regions like Mozambique, Java, and Saudi Arabia.
There will be a walkthrough of the exhibition and a show & tell at Sarmaya Arts Foundation followed by the workshop.
