From Aarey to Art: The Warli Experience (hands-on workshop & a community engagement activity)

Sarmaya Arts Foundation presents, an experiential event organised in collaboration with BNHS and the Warli community of Aarey Forest. The program aims to provide participants with a unique and immersive experience that connects them to both the natural world and the rich cultural heritage of the Warli tribe. From learning about colours to foraging your own colours in the forest with a Warli artist, the participant will get to understand the art of the Warli community. This program seeks to explore the intricate relationship between the Warli people and the Aarey Forest, where they have lived for generations, drawing inspiration from the environment for their art.

About the facilitator and artist: Prakash Sathe is a passionate Warli artist who has been practicing this traditional art form for over 10 years. His journey with Warli painting began in childhood, driven by a deep appreciation for its simplicity and cultural richness. Rooted in the tribal traditions of the Warli community from Maharashtra’s Dahanu and Palghar districts, this distinctive style has not only shaped Prakash’s artistic identity but also earned international acclaim. Through his workshops, Prakash aims to share the beauty, history, and technique of Warli art, inspiring others to connect with Maharashtra’s vibrant folk heritage.
