Fortress Hohensalzburg

The fortress, the landmark of Salzburg and one of the largest medieval castles in Europe was built on the mountain Monchsberg. You can take the cable car to get to it, climb the mountain from the city centre or take the nicer, cooler route from Augustinergasse. The view is astonishing and the gentle rise of the maintain is not exhausting to walk. Another option is to start at St. Peter’s Cathedral and admire the cemetery built into the rock and proceed on.
