Welcome to Pint of View – Pune’s first-ever community where lectures meet drinks in a relaxed pub-style setting.
About the lecture:
How does a molecule become a medicine? Why do most drugs fail?
And what really happens between a lab breakthrough and the pill you swallow?
Behind every approved drug lies a story.
Years of experiments. Unexpected failures. Ethical dilemmas. Colossal risks. Moments of doubt.
And sometimes — breakthroughs that change the world.
In this lecture, we’ll explore what truly goes into the making of medicines, vaccines, biologics, and cell-&-gene therapies.
This is a crash course in how medicines are actually made: the science, the setbacks, the ethics, the money, and the stubborn hope .
What to Expect:
🍃 A 45-minute session exploring drug development, vaccines and gene therapy
🧠 20 minutes of Q&A to ask your questions and share your own observations

About the Lecturers:
Dr. Narendra Chirmule is an immunologist with over three decades of experience in drug development, spanning vaccines, biologics, and cutting-edge cell and gene therapies. He is the co-founder of Symphony Technologies, a data analytics company, and currently teaches drug development at the University of Pennsylvania and the Indian Institutes of Technology in Mumbai and Delhi.
Over the course of his career, he has helped bring multiple therapies through clinical development — learning not only from successes, but from spectacular failures. His TEDx talk and his book Good Genes Gone Bad (Penguin Press) explore the hard-won lessons behind breakthroughs in modern medicine. In 2025, he edited Approved: Life Cycle of Drug Development (Springer), a comprehensive look at how medicines move from lab bench to bedside.
And when he’s not navigating the complexities of immunology, he plays the flute — proving that science and art often share the same breath.
Ravindra Khare (Ravi) is the Co-Founder and CEO of Symphony Technologies Pvt. Ltd., India. A mechanical engineer with a Master’s degree in Data Science and Engineering from BITS Pilani, Ravi operates at the intersection of statistics, analytics, and industrial systems.
Over three decades, he has worked extensively across the pharmaceutical, engineering, and automotive sectors, applying advanced data science to Quality Engineering, design optimization, and manufacturing excellence.
His work focuses on translating complex data into measurable performance improvements — making systems smarter, more reliable, and more efficient.
Ravi brings a practitioner’s lens to analytics: grounded in real-world industrial challenges, driven by statistical rigor, and oriented toward impact.
He’s also an amateur Guitarist, Adventure Cyclist, Literary Writer and as he likes to call himself - a perpetual student.
