MeMeraki × Amar Ramesh
Drishti Paintings and Masks of India
An India Art Fair – Satellite Event
As part of the India Art Fair week, MeMeraki presents a powerful exploration of protection, belief, and visual ferocity—rooted in the folk traditions of Tamil Nadu.
At the heart of this showcase is Kolli Kannu: Drishti Paintings of Tamil Nadu, a seminal hardcover art book by Amar Ramesh. Through evocative photography and deep cultural insight, Amar documents the striking world of Drishti art—bold “evil eye” motifs, fierce guardian faces, exaggerated eyes, horns, and expressions created to ward off negativity and safeguard homes and temples.
Extending the book beyond the page, MeMeraki’s master artisans have re-imagined these Drishti forms as sculptural masks, bringing the language of protection into three dimensions. The result is a rare dialogue between documentation and living craft—photograph and object, archive and reinvention.
