The Red Fort (Lal Qila), an iconic symbol of India's history, stands proudly in Old Delhi as a silent witness to centuries of political, architectural, and cultural change. Commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1638, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is not just a monument—it is a storyteller, narrating tales of imperial grandeur, colonial resistance, and post-independence pride. Stories about the Mughal opulence, the power politics, the powerful place of women in our history will unfold as we walk through the bygone Mughal era. The ‘war of succession’ that took place among the four sons of Shah Jahan had one novelty, while previously, wars were fought after the death of the emperor, this war was fought when Shah Jahan was still alive. All sons and daughters of Shah Jahan participated in it. While the four sons Dara Shikoh, Shah Shuja, Aurangzeb and Murad Baksh fought against each other, the sisters Jahanara and Roshanara allied themselves with one or the other brother. Through this we will bring to you to the story of the Mughal battle of succession that changed the course of Indian history. The heritage walk includes (dramatic reading of play excerpts in Hindustani) highlighting stories and scenes from the tussle going on between Shahjahan’s Sons Aurangzeb and Dara Shikoh and the two daughters Jahanara and Roshanara Begum, each of whom sided with one brother.
