The Bombay Nights Ramzan Poetry Crawl & Photography Tour
Bombay(Mumbai) is a city in which Yash, a documentary photographer, was born and raised. He never imagined that one day he would be documenting this city from scratch. He has been documenting this city for the last 8 years, and works across many projects. Bombay Nights is one of them. It’s a project about documenting the night life in this city. He leaves home after sunset and continues documenting this city till the next day’s sunrise. Honestly, he was surprised by these night walks. This city never sleeps. There’s always something going on in the corners of this city.
Saranya Subramanian runs The Bombay Poetry Crawl, an archival research space dedicated to the 20th century Bombay poets. The idea is to bring different neighbourhoods to life through the poets - Sion & Versova Koliwada, Sassoon Docks through Adil Jussawalla’s Shorelines, Mira Road through Nida Fazli, Kala Ghoda through Arun Kolatkar, Santacruz through Eunice de Souza’s Fix, Bandra West through Meena Kumari’s shayari, abandoned Parel & Byculla mills through Narayan Surve, Keshav Meshram, Kamathipura through Namdeo Dhasal & Mallika Amar Sheikh, Madanpura through Kaifi Azmi and Sahir, the local train ladies’ compartment through Arundhathi Subramaniam, Soyarabai…to name a few! Through research, active walking, and expansive conversations, Saranya aims to understand what The Poet’s City is.
