Join us for a reflective heritage walk through the Mehrauli Archaeological Park, where we unfold the multiple layers of Delhi's architecture.
Spanning the Sultanate, Mughal, Colonial & Modern periods, this walk explores how Delhi has been continuously rebuilt, reimagined & remembered across centuries. We will trace how architecture became a record of change – how new dynasties introduced different materials, construction techniques & spatial ideas; how mosques, tombs, stepwells & estates expressed authority, devotion & utility; and how later regimes engaged with the past through reuse, adaptation & preservation. 🚶♂️🚶♀️
🌄 From the early experiments of Balban’s Tomb to the poetic interiors of Jamali Kamali, from the social life of baolis & everyday structures to colonial landscape - making under Metcalfe, the walk reveals Delhi not as a fixed capital but as a living archive. We will explore how Delhi has continually transformed – architecturally, culturally & symbolically.
Badalti Dilli invites participants to see Delhi as a layered palimpsest, where each dynasty built upon, reused or reimagined what came before. 🌱
