Join us for a walkthrough of the Afghan Church with Sharon.
Built in 1858 and completed in 1865, this beautiful Gothic Revival structure was raised by the British to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in the First Anglo-Afghan War (1839–42). That’s where it gets its name.
⠀One of the earliest examples of Gothic revival architecture, the church features stunning stained glass windows, high vaulted ceilings, and a striking 198-ft bell tower that once served as a landmark for ships entering Bombay Harbour.⠀Today, the Afghan Church continues to serve as an active Anglican place of worship, while also contributing to Mumbai’s cultural fabric through various collaborative programs of social and cultural relevance.
After a two-year restoration, this heritage gem opened to the public some months ago — a beautifully preserved symbol of our city's layered history.
