‘The visionary poetry and art of William Blake (1757-1827) still provokes and inspires, even as the 200th anniversary of his death approaches. Blake was a visionary who defied convention to achieve a central place in the history of visual art, literature and alternative consciousness.
In ‘A Golden String’ musician Susheela Raman, poet and musician Jeet Thayil along with musician Sam Mills lift the drama of Blake’s poetry off the page to embodiment and presence in song and recitation. Both Jeet Thayil and Susheela bring a remarkable physical intensity to their work, something vital in interpreting Blake for whom ‘Energy is Eternal Delight’.
Accompanying the performance are powerful visuals based on Blake’s extraordinary art.
